Handbuild | Low fire clay | Underglazes
The inspiration behind this maraca is my contemplation of the daily lives of our ancestral Taino women. I am in awe of how modern indigenous women in their territories in the Americas continue to blend their daily tasks, seamlessly integrating art with domestic responsibilities, considering it as integral to home life as cooking or childcare.
I am dedicated to documenting in clay the diverse daily tasks carried out by Taíno women as a way of paying homage to their lives, skills, and valuable contributions to the community. By creating these clay beings, I aim to breathe life into their rich experiences and and allow you to connect with them through the sacred act of prayer.
This unique, one of a kind, piece is the first in a series of 10 pieces. There will only be one available.
